Correlation of Riparian Population Size and Selected DENR Class C Water Quality Indicators at Pampanga River Monitoring Stations, 2020
Downloads
This study examined the relationship between riparian population size and selected DENR Class C water quality indicators in Pampanga River monitoring stations in 2020. A quantitative descriptive-correlational design was used, utilizing secondary data from PSA and DENR-EMB. Parameters analysed included dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), pH, fecal coliform, nitrate, phosphate, and chloride.
Spearman’s rank correlation showed a negative relationship between population and DO (ρ = -0.625), and positive relationships with BOD (ρ = 0.60) and fecal coliform (ρ = 0.625). TSS showed a weak negative relationship (ρ = -0.20). Results indicate that higher population levels are associated with poorer water quality.
